Who else feels GMC really dropped the ball when they discontinued the EV-1 in the early 90s?
GMC could have been a global leader if they had continued what they started in the early 90's with the EV-1. Instead, they decided to succumb to industry, political, and ally pressure to quietly make the car go away.
Now, this company which used to dominate the auto industry, sits in a corner licking their wounds and trying to recover from bankruptcy, as a foreign company (Toyota) now holds that honor. Ironically, Toyota sits at the top for doing what GMC had the opportunity to do - make quality, affordable, and efficient vehicles.
To make it worse, Toyota just signed papers to partner with the only company to have a fully electric consumer vehicle on the highways (Tesla) to further development in electric vehicle technology.
You coulda been somebody, GMC, you coulda been a contender.

They had to there was too much political pressure and they were kinda forced to sell it to Exxon. It wasn't what GM wanted to do it was what oil crazed politicain"made" them do. With that said lets think rationally who in 1993 would have wanted to drive an all electric car, now a days we think like that back than you would have been laughed off your block for having one in your drive way.
